Read  A Beautiful Young Wife by Tommy Wieringa on a trip. A novella with few pages but it had so many emotions beautifully packed into it! It makes you feel and it makes you think!

A brilliant microbiologist, Edward,  in his 50s falls in love with a much younger beautiful woman and ends up marrying her. Hence the title! Before and after their marriage, it is a saga of how relationships, especially marriage, change and wither with time and circumstances. It’s an account of what we all know and acknowledge, but the narrative is effective and there is always a connectedness with Edward.

To read about the impact of growing old on Edward’s thoughts and the differences it creates between him and his wife are sometimes scary, sometimes bewildering! The simplicity of the words is powerful enough to force you into visualising your old self and make you realise growing old is inevitable. Recommended read!
