Our guided tour of Machu Pichu started from here..
Close up view…
Mount Putucusi or ‘Happy Moutain’ (This is a separate hike, which is very very steep and dangerous, gets booked well in advance).
And the Panarama, every frame is picture perfect here! Amazing harmony of history and nature..
The Inca terraces, an engineering perfection. Terraces were more sacred than temples because of their agricultural importance!
Some structures in Machu Pichu, they used lot of big stones for construction.
These were apartments/quarters for normal people..
The lonely tree in the plaza. it is believed the royals lived here…
The Sun temple which is the only round building in MP,
There are two windows in the temple, one of which faces east. When sunlight falls on it, it casts a shadow on carving in the temple for six months. The other window does this for rest of the six months.
These were supposed to hold torches in night..
The incan compass..
The mirror of waters…
For a long time, these were believed to be mortar and pastel and part of a kitchen. On further investigation, it was concluded that when they are filled with water, the reflections can b used to track planets and constellations!
And some more pics…
One has to be there to feel the aura of this Incan masterpiece! Whether you view in its entirety or parts of it, Machu Pichu is truly majestic!
