This is post #14 in 100DaysOfBloggingChallenge
Another post from my Peru trip, an experience of its kind!
From the city of Puno, a boat ride on Lake Titicaca will take you to this unique world where people live on floating islands.
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and offers serene views..
A small house on a floating island
We visited an island called Santa Maria where 3 families lived..
This is their entire world… The sofa in their open living room where they gave us a demo of how they make these floating islands..
These small islands, made of reed last about a year after which the families have to build themselves a new home! The demo that they gave us..
The reed is used to make these cute boats …
A restaurant on another island..
They even have schools ..the yellow ones are school buildings…
These people have an utterly simple life. Their are about 2200 people living like this! TVs and the internet have reached their homes less than a decade ago only. They speak Ayemara language, go to the mainland to barter their handmade stuff for potatoes and quinoa!
Lake Titicaca is one of the main attractions for tourists in Peru mainly because of these floating islands!
