Angkor Wat is one of the Central temples in the Angkor Complex build in early 12th century ( between 1113 and 1150) by King Suryavarnam II. It served as capital and State Temple during that time!
Its’ the largest of Khmer Temples and was actually a city on its own!
It consists of pyramid of three levels, each one enclosed by a well-developed gallery and corner towers.
It is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Vishnu which faces West, unlike the normal convention of temples facing east!
It has lot of reliefs, most of which depict the stories from in Hindu epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha!
The original stairs here looks scary, not used anymore for tourists though!
The north facing side of the temple has a pool and is famous for the sunrise views. If you are lucky, the views can be amazing! This is what we got:
