Another week-long trip, the second one this year, this time to the Kingdom of Cambodia! It’s an amazing little country of gentle people who are extremely polite, a place that witnessed extreme cruelty of Pol Pot from 1975-1979, home to the famous Angkor Wat which is a massive temple complex build over 400 years during the Khmer Empire!
We were a bunch of adventurous 8 women who had a great time exploring this amazing country with our local Cambodian guide! This is what we did in brief:
Day 1 : Arrived in Phnom Penh, the Capital City. I had about half a day to explore the city! Got a tuk-tuk ride to go around the city, saw the city monuments and a temple called Wat Phnom. Met all the lovely ladies in the evening!
Day 2: Started off with Silver Pagoda and Royal Palace in the morning, got some good pictures in the serenity of this place!
Also saw the confronting Choeung Ek Genocidal Museum and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
Highlight of the day was the amazing one hour Dance Performance comprising of 8 dances from different Cambodian Provinces!
Day 3: Went to stroll around the local Central Market after a cuppa in the city in morning before we flew to Siem Reap late arvo!
After settling in the hotel, visited the Artisans Angkor where we saw the artists in action creating beautiful sculptures and paintings!
Finished off the day with a nice dinner on the vibrant Pub street!
Day 4: The Temple tours started today, exciting! Saw the iconic Angkor Wat in the morning followed by the Bayon Temple!
After Lunch, I had another tuk tuk ride to see few more temples: Banteay Kdei, Bat Chum and Sras Srang!
Day 5: Morning visit to the Angkor Center for Conservation of Biodiversity, a short guided tour to see some animals! And then visited the Ta Prohm Temple, famous as the jungle temple where Tomb Raider was filmed!
Also visited the beautiful Banteay Srie Temple!
Day 6: Before flying back home, visited few more temples: Preah Khan, Neak Pean, East Mebon, Pre Rup and Ta Keo!
It was a fun trip! Cambodia has lots to offer, admire the beauty of Angkor Temples, relish the Khmer Cuisine, slurp lots of iced Khmer Coffee, indulge in massages, be a haggler on the local markets and enjoy the tuk tuk rides! More pics coming soon!
